First Lady Fatima Jabbe Maada Bio will commence the second phase of free sanitary pads.

  By Godwin

Her Excellency, Dr. Fatima Jabbe Maada Bio, will soon announce a date for the nationwide distribution of free sanitary pads, targeting over 100,000 beneficiaries.

Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) is essential to the well-being and empowerment of women and adolescent girls. On any given day, more than 300 million women worldwide are menstruating. In total, an estimated 500 million people lack access to menstrual products and adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management (MHM).

Providing access to free period products is fundamental to equality and dignity and removes the financial barriers to accessing them. Research has shown that a lack of access to period products can cause women and girls to miss school or work.

"Menstruation is a choice; you need not be ashamed because it is not a crime."

The First Lady free, high-quality sanitary pad distribution is a component of her Hands of Our Girls campaign, which is one of Africa's biggest pro-women initiatives

This campaign will:

Increase awareness among adolescent girls on Menstrual Hygiene.

It will increase access to and use of high-quality sanitary pads by adolescent girls in rural areas.

It will ensure safe disposal of sanitary pads in an environmentally friendly manner.

Note: These sanitary pads are safe to use and have been certified by the UN to be used anywhere in the world. The pack will contain 120 pieces of pads, and it could last for a whole year.

The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Jabbe Maada Bio, has said in many fora that the purpose of the free sanitary pads is to keep girls safe in school during their menstrual period so that they can enjoy the Free Quality Education program introduced by President Julius Maada Bio.
